How Much Does Home Care Cost in Northern Virginia?

August 19, 2026 · Millennium Care Team

If Medicaid covers it

For members approved through the CCC Plus Waiver, personal care and respite hours are generally covered with no bill to the family. An assessment of daily living needs sets the approved number of hours.

If you are paying privately

Private-pay home care in Northern Virginia is billed by the hour. The total cost depends on how many hours a week are needed, whether care is during the day or overnight, and whether it is occasional help or full live-in coverage. Millennium provides a written hourly rate before care starts, with no long-term contract.

What changes the number

  • Hours per week. A few mornings a week costs less than daily visits, which costs less than live-in or 24-hour care.
  • Level of care. Personal care and companion care are billed differently from skilled nursing visits.
  • Time of day. Overnight and live-in arrangements are priced differently from daytime hours.

Ways to lower the cost

  • Check Medicaid eligibility. Many families qualify and never apply.
  • Ask about consumer-directed pay if a relative is already providing unpaid care.
  • Ask about long-term care insurance. We provide the visit records and invoices insurers require.
  • Start with the hours you need most, such as mornings or evenings, rather than a full day.

Getting an exact number
